Another Successful Day For the 4th Annual Ladies Nordic Ski Expo

Another Perfect Winter Day for the Ladies Nordic Ski Expo

Although winter has been AWOL in most parts of New England this season, all necessary parts of the missing season showed up for the Catamount Trail’s 4th annual Ladies Nordic Ski Expo that was held at the Trapp Family Lodge on Saturday, January 7th. With 6-8 inches of new powder snow in the days before the event, over 100 women from six states were treated to fresh tracks, sun and mild temperatures for a day filled with learning, camaraderie, good food and drink and that good feeling of fatigue after a full day on the snow.

Ten experienced and enthusiastic instructors headed up by Event Director JoAnn Hanowski, led the participants through basic drills in classic, skate and backcountry techniques for the morning sessions. Participants of various ability levels were also video taped to help them visualize the correct movements that they should strive for in their skiing. After a quick review, the women headed indoors for a filling lunch and an inspirational multi-media presentation “Off-piste in the East” by Brian Mohr and Emily Johnson of Ember Photography. The presentation was great impetus to get back outside to hone ski skills.

The weather continued to cooperate for the afternoon sessions that included more on ski technique drills and some tours of the ski trails. After more than five hours on the snow, the women were treated to an après ski party that included some of Vermont’s best products including Cabot Cheese, Vermont Smoke and Cure products, Nutty Stephs, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Boyden Valley wine and hats by Turtle Fur.
